Okay so I've been low-key obsessed with this Dress up Thumbelina game lately, and I'm not even going to pretend I'm playing it "ironically" anymore. There's something weirdly therapeutic about dressing up this tiny fairy tale character that takes me right back to my childhood obsession with dolls—except without the mess of tiny plastic shoes getting lost in the carpet.
The game is based on the classic fairy tale (you know, the thumb-sized girl who almost marries a mole?), but honestly, the storyline takes a backseat to what really matters: the RIDICULOUS amount of cute outfits you can put together. We're talking hundreds of combinations between the dresses, crowns, shoes, and accessories. I spent way too long just trying different flower-petal dresses before I even discovered there were seasonal outfits hidden in the game!
What I dig most is how the developers actually put thought into the tiny details. Like, Thumbelina's animations change depending on what you dress her in—put her in something comfy and she does this adorable little twirl, but dress her in formal wear and she does this prim little curtsy that cracks me up every time. The backgrounds are gorgeous too; you can place her in different scenes from the story like the lily pad or the field of flowers.
Is it the most complex game ever? Nah. But there's something incredibly satisfying about putting together the perfect outfit and taking screenshots to save your creations. I've literally got a folder on my phone now labeled "Thumbelina's Best Looks" and I'm not even embarrassed about it. Ok, maybe a little embarrassed.
My roommate caught me playing at midnight last week and gave me THAT look, but whatever—we all need our stress relief, right? And honestly, after a day of dealing with actual real-life problems, there's something soothing about just making a tiny fairy girl look cute as heck in a daisy crown and sparkly shoes.
Fair warning though: you might think "I'll just play for five minutes" and then suddenly it's an hour later and you've created fifteen different seasonal looks for a fictional thumb-sized person. No regrets though!
